The story of March 8th is a story of the little victories that led to a great triumph. Today we take for granted the right of women to have a place in the society, to vote and to be elected, to have a profession, to receive a fair remuneration, but it was not long ago when this was not possible. The impressive achievements of the women, as well as the endless harmony and love that they offer are indisputable. It seems as if everything becomes beautiful and better when it is surrounded by feminine energy and harmony. Admiring the lovely spirit of the women, the team of Smokini - the adventurous restaurant of Plovdiv will delight the ladies welcoming them on 8th March with a specially selected three-course menu.

Every year, on 8th of March, the world celebrates the International Women's Day. This day is a recognition of the social, economic and political achievements of the women. On that day are also celebrated the personal achievements of the mother, who creates cozy family atmosphere and of the lover who brings joy and beauty in the life of her partner. 8th of March is the day of the women - successful, special, and proud of their achievements.

History of the holiday

The first mass event of women workers took place in New York on March 8, 1857. These are employees of textile and tailoring enterprises who went on a protest against the bad working conditions and the low levels of payment. The protest was attacked and the women are scattered. Two years later, however, they formed the first women's trade union. This was extremely inspiring for the women who were fighting for their rights in Western Europe and the United States in the years to come, and especially during the Cold War.

There have been many protests throughout the years. Following the process of economic expansion and industrialization in 1908, women organized a procession in New York protesting for the right to vote, a shorter working day, better working conditions, a minimum wage and a better payment. On February 23rd 1909, as an initiative of the US Socialist Party in the United States, the first International Day of Women was celebrated.

In the capital of Denmark at the end of August 1910, the first international women's conference took place. It was organized by the socialist international and thus was assumed that the first Sunday of March will mark the day of the women workers and the solidarity between them. The aim was to organize the women on an international level in order to achieve equality with men in all spheres of life. Only a year later, the International Women's Day was celebrated in Denmark, England, Germany, Switzerland. In 1913 France and Russia joined the celebrations.

The women's demonstrations in Russia have began during the first stage of the Russian Revolution in 1917. Then, on 8th March, women workers from Petrograd protest against tsarism, war and hunger. In 1920, after the Russian Revolution in Russia, at an international conference of the female communists in Moscow, the Bulgarian Anna Maymunkova suggested 8th March to be celebrated as an International Women's Day. The holiday was declared a non-working day in Russia in 1965. In Bulgaria, the holiday is celebrated since 1911, and it was first celebrated in public in 1915.

The women’s day was celebrated between 1910 - 1920, and then the celebrations stopped to start again after 1944 in various enterprises, taking into account the contribution of women to the public life. The holiday was fully restored during the 1960s with the start of the feminism. In the 1980s, women's demands were directed towards equal rights for education and training, family-friendly working hours, legalization of abortion, and full compliance with women rights. The struggle to achieve these goals led to changes in the family law and divorce regulations. In 1977 the United Nations General Assembly picked 8th March to be the Day for the Protection of Women's Rights and World Peace.

Today, 8th March is A holiday that honors the importance of women in the family and in the society. Having lost its political aspect, today the holiday is considered to be a good way to honor women around the world, to pay attention and show sympathy to their contribution for a more beautiful, peaceful and peaceful world. On this day men, as well as children, show their love and gratitude for the harmony, peacefulness and love that women offer them.

Putting the woman on a pedestal

The feast is not a celebration of feminism, but a gratitude towards the women before us who have achieved a lot making the women today equal to men as far as family, work and education are concerned. Women today have the right to vote and right to get equal pay.

For many people this day is still challenged, misunderstood, and even accepted as a cliché or as something from the past. The truth, however, is that this day honors the lady, the beloved woman, the mother. Thus kids draw cards, men buy flowers and show respect to the woman co-worker, to their children's teacher, to their loved ones. Women often gather together with friends on this day to inspire each other and combine their female energy, strength and harmony.

Special menu for 8 March in Smokini - the modern restaurant in Plovdiv

The impressive achievements of the women, as well as the feeling of harmony and love that women create, are undeniable and have been proven over time. It seems as if everything becomes more beautiful and better when surrounded by feminine energy and harmony.

The team of Smokini - the adventurous restaurant in Plovdiv admires women and their achievements, energy and the atmosphere they create. Thus it will delight the ladies with a specially arranged three-course menu in the spirit of the holiday.

On the 8th March they will be offered a fantastic salad - a bouquet of deciduous salads with ham, fried nuts, fresh strawberries, raspberry tincture and copper dressing. The main dish will be a double roll, filled with gorgonzola, smoked bacon, dried tomatoes, topped with baked figs and stuffed with breeze mousse. This exquisite meal will be garnished with potatoes confit and roasted chestnuts and will be served with roasted sauce.

The sweet temptation at the end of the evening will be a vanilla pancake with crispy chocolate, chocolate tree with raspberry jelly and caramel / white chocolate pancake with seasonal fruits, a strawberry cream soup sprinkled with crocant and garnished with chocolate mousse.

Selected beverages will be offered as well. A professional team will serve the ladies at Smokini - the new restaurant in Plovdiv.
